In January, we screened Tarpon in Key West at the Tropic Cinema. United in their love of literature and fishing (and cocaine and LSD), the likes of McGuane, Jim Harrison, Richard Brautigan and Jimmy Buffett made early 70s Key West a kind of mecca. Filmmakers Guy De La Valdene and Christian Odasso document the scene in their obscure film called TARPON, from 1974. It shares the screen with ALL THAT IS SACRED, a contemporary companion piece that borrows footage from the earlier film, and further honors the hippie Algonquin Round Table, a crew survived only by McGuane.

We had a successful screening in early November in Livingston, Montana with Scott Ballew’s short, “All That is Sacred.” A poignant moment as many locals had deep ties to the characters in the films. Not a dry eye in the theatre.

The newest 4k restoration of Tarpon (1973) premiered at the Telluride Film Festival '23, alongside the fantastic short film, "All That is Sacred," by Scott Ballew. "All That is Sacred" revisits Key West in the early 70s, the making of Tarpon, and the long-standing friendships between the writer and musicians of that era.
